A reported distribution into 19 addresses
CoinDesk reported at 04:23 UTC on October 30 that Bitcoin linked to the Binance attack had been distributed across 19 addresses: 17 holding 1,000 BTC each, plus approximately 832.5 BTC and 437.7 BTC at two others. Its report said the destination funds remained unspent at that snapshot.
That is a timestamped reporting claim, not a statement that every address remains unchanged now.
What separate explorer checks show
At approximately 06:02 UTC, The Token Press checked two addresses cited in the trail using Mempool. The receiving address showed total receipts of 18,270.2 BTC and a zero balance, with repeated 1,000 BTC outputs visible in its history.
One reported destination showed approximately 437.7 BTC and no outgoing transactions. Its total included two tiny later incoming transfers.
These checks confirm the displayed histories of those two addresses only. They do not independently establish the identity behind them or constitute a fresh review of all 19 destinations. Attribution of the wider trail remains with CoinDesk's reporting.
No issuer freeze is not the same as no recovery
Bitcoin's protocol has no central issuer that can apply the kind of administrative token freeze available in some asset contracts. Bitcoin.org also explains that transaction histories are public, while an address does not by itself reveal its owner's identity.
That combination allows monitoring without guaranteeing recovery. It does not mean seizures are categorically impossible: in 2021, the US Justice Department documented a Bitcoin seizure after the FBI obtained the private key for an address receiving Colonial Pipeline ransom proceeds.
That historical case is not evidence investigators have similar access here. This report identifies no confirmed seizure, mixer deposit or sale from the observed balances.
