Swiss digital asset bank debuts discretionary management for crypto-heavy balance sheets
Swiss-regulated digital asset bank Sygnum has launched a new institutional asset management offering aimed squarely at the growing corporate crypto treasury market, which now holds an estimated $100 billion in digital assets.
The new service, branded Sygnum Select, applies a traditional Swiss private banking portfolio management framework to crypto holdings. Structured as a discretionary mandate, it grants Sygnum execution authority within agreed investment parameters, allowing the bank to actively manage allocations, rebalance positions and oversee risk on behalf of clients.

At launch, the service is already managing roughly $200 million in client assets under live mandates, according to a company spokesperson.

Corporate treasuries expand, but infrastructure gaps remain
The timing reflects the rapid rise of digital asset treasury companies over the past few years. Public and private firms collectively hold more than 1.4 million Bitcoin, worth close to $100 billion at current prices, according to BitcoinTreasuries data.
Yet the growth has not been uniform in quality. Several high-profile treasury strategies have struggled with volatility, leverage or governance concerns. Ether-focused treasury firm ETHZilla recently rebranded and pivoted toward tokenized assets after its stock declined sharply this year. Meanwhile, CEA Industries, once the largest BNB treasury company, has seen its share price collapse from prior highs amid internal disputes and strategic questions.
Sygnum argues that many corporate treasuries lack institutional-grade risk management and portfolio infrastructure, creating demand for regulated counterparties capable of applying structured investment discipline.
Institutional clients seek active oversight, not just custody
According to Sygnum chief investment officer Fabian Dori, corporate treasuries and crypto foundations are moving beyond basic custody and execution services.
“As digital assets mature and institutional adoption accelerates, clients are looking for the same rigor they expect from a traditional private bank,” Dori said.
Sygnum Select portfolios may include spot exposure, staking, derivatives, hedging strategies, tokenized securities and market-neutral allocations. Many mandates span both traditional and digital asset classes, reflecting a more integrated treasury approach.
Markus Haemmerli, head of portfolio management at Sygnum, said the aim is to combine the strengths of conventional asset managers with crypto-native expertise in a single framework.
The service is initially available to Swiss clients, though geographic expansion is planned.
Market-neutral strategies gain traction
Sygnum’s broader asset management push comes as institutions show increasing interest in structured crypto strategies. In January, the bank raised more than 750 BTC for its market-neutral Bitcoin fund, which delivered an annualized return of 8.9% in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The bank itself achieved a post-money valuation above $1 billion earlier this year after raising $58 million in an oversubscribed strategic growth round, underscoring investor appetite for regulated digital asset infrastructure
providers.
As more corporations experiment with crypto balance sheet strategies, the competitive edge may shift from simple accumulation toward disciplined risk management and yield optimization.
