Ledger has unveiled Atom, an Android-based security device designed to run everyday applications while keeping sensitive approvals in a separate Ledger OS environment. Announced on October 15 at the company's Ledger Op3n event, the product is intended to sit alongside a user's primary phone rather than replace it: independent reporting says it is data-only and does not support conventional calls or text messages. Ledger estimates that the device will ship in the second quarter of 2027.
Two environments on one device
The central design claim is separation between the standard Android environment and a protected Secure Mode. Ledger says Atom uses an EAL6+ Secure Element for Ledger OS, while an FPGA-based architecture controls the boundary between the two environments. Transactions and other sensitive actions move to Secure Mode for review and approval, so an ordinary Android app is not supposed to control what the secure display shows or authorises. Those protections remain company claims until the finished product is tested in wider use.

The device has a 6.77-inch OLED display running at 60Hz, a Qualcomm Dragonwing processor, a single rear camera and a 4,000mAh battery, according to The Verge. Ledger says the battery will be replaceable by the user. The company is promising five years of Android updates and seven years of spare-parts availability. A physical switch is designed to disconnect the camera and microphone at the circuit level rather than merely disabling them in software.
Security claims arrive under scrutiny
Ledger is also promoting enclosure, screen and back-cover sensors intended to reveal physical interference, along with a cryptographically paired rear cover and tamper-evident packaging. The emphasis follows Ledger's confirmation of an unauthorised hardware implant found in a genuine device sold through a reseller in Southeast Asia. The implant was designed to capture a recovery phrase during setup. Ledger has not confirmed a total financial loss connected to that incident, so reports of suspected losses should not be treated as an established company figure.
Atom will include Ledger Wallet for managing digital assets. Ledger also says Solana Mobile's Seeker application will be preinstalled, giving users access to more than 1,500 applications in that ecosystem. Another planned feature, Ledger Agent Intent, is intended to let users approve actions proposed by AI agents, with OpenClaw named as an early integration. The announcement does not establish that agent-generated instructions are safe; users would still need to inspect each action before approving it.
Reservations before a 2027 launch
Ledger is taking reservations for a Founder's Edition with a fully refundable $100 deposit. The company lists a special price of $849, while independent reports put the planned standard price at $899. Ledger's own terms describe the second-quarter 2027 delivery window as an estimate rather than a commitment. Atom remains in development, and its specifications, features, pricing and certification status may change before release.
The launch broadens Ledger's approach from dedicated hardware wallets toward a general-purpose device with an isolated signing layer. Whether that balance improves security in practice will depend on the final hardware, software maintenance and supply-chain controls. For now, Atom is a reservation-stage product, not a shipping security upgrade, and buyers evaluating it must separate announced architecture from protections demonstrated on production units.
