How to verify crypto news

Distinguish an announcement, an allegation, an executed change and an independent finding.

Start with the exact event

A useful news check identifies what happened, when it happened and who can directly establish it. An announcement date may differ from the date of a registration decision, software activation or trading launch.

Headlines compress information. Read the underlying document before interpreting a large number, an accusation or a claim that an entire industry has been affected.

Use the right primary source

For a listing, read the exchange notice. For a protocol change, check the release, governance record and activation information. For a regulatory action, read the regulator’s announcement or underlying order.

A company statement is primary evidence of what the company says, but not independent proof of every claimed result. Add independent reporting where possible and identify disagreements or missing information.

Build a fact ledger

Make a short table with claim, source, event date and confidence. Separate confirmed facts from estimates and interpretation. Check units: millions versus billions, cumulative totals versus a single event, and gross losses versus unrecovered funds.

Finally, ask whether a story is reporting, opinion or a paid company announcement. Image captions also matter: an AI-generated conceptual illustration should not be mistaken for a photograph of the event. This process supports better reading and the editorial standards used by The Token Press.
