Ethereum’s network activity is surging once again, yet transaction fees remain remarkably low — a stark contrast to the network’s past congestion-driven price spikes. On Tuesday, the Ethereum blockchain processed over 1.6 million daily transactions, marking its highest level of activity since early October’s $19 billion liquidation event.
Despite this surge, average gas fees have hovered near historic lows, reflecting the growing scalability and efficiency of the world’s largest smart contract platform. According to blockchain data aggregator Milkroad, the average Ethereum transaction fee currently sits at just 0.16 gwei, equivalent to roughly one cent per transaction. Even more complex operations — such as token swaps and NFT trades — cost only about $0.15 and $0.27, respectively.

This stability signals a significant transformation for Ethereum. During previous bull cycles, network congestion often drove fees to prohibitive levels, frustrating users and pushing developers toward alternative chains. The latest data, however, suggests a maturing ecosystem capable of handling large-scale activity without sacrificing affordability.
Network participation has mirrored the surge in transactions. Data from Nansen shows that active Ethereum addresses climbed to nearly 696,000 on Saturday — a one-month high that underscores the platform’s renewed momentum across decentralized finance (DeFi), NFTs, and layer-2 (L2) applications.
Ethereum’s sustained efficiency can be attributed to recent protocol enhancements. Following the Dencun and Pectra upgrades, the network has successfully reduced fees and increased throughput. The Pectra upgrade, rolled out in May 2025, doubled the blob capacity for L2 networks — effectively halving transaction costs and diverting more data processing away from the mainnet.
Meanwhile, the Dencun upgrade, implemented in March 2024, introduced data “blobs” to improve rollup scalability. One year later, this has contributed to a 95% reduction in average transaction fees, while also boosting L2 adoption and transaction offloading from Ethereum’s primary chain.
As Ethereum continues to evolve, these developments highlight a broader narrative — one of resilience and refinement. The network is no longer just a hub for decentralized applications; it is emerging as a scalable foundation for real-world blockchain use cases, from tokenized assets to enterprise-grade DeFi systems.
