Andreessen Horowitz has raised more than $15 billion in fresh capital, reinforcing its view that crypto and frontier technologies are critical to maintaining US leadership in the decades ahead.
In a statement published Friday, Andreessen Horowitz — widely known as a16z — said the new funds will be deployed into sectors it believes are essential for America to remain competitive over the next century. Crypto remains a core pillar of that strategy, alongside artificial intelligence, infrastructure, and national security–aligned innovation.
Co-founder Ben Horowitz said the US can no longer assume a dominant position in emerging technologies, noting that China and other global competitors have rapidly closed the gap. He warned that without closer coordination between government and private capital, the country risks falling behind in areas that shape economic and geopolitical power.
Horowitz pointed to both AI and crypto as early examples where delayed action and regulatory uncertainty have already begun to erode America’s advantage. He argued that sustained investment and policy alignment are
now necessary to reverse that trajectory.
“As the American leader in Venture Capital, the fate of new technology in the United States rests partly on our shoulders. Our mission is ensuring that America wins the next 100 years of technology. That starts with winning the key architectures of the future – AI and crypto.”
How the $15B will be deployed
The capital raise will be spread across multiple a16z investment vehicles. The firm’s Growth fund will receive the largest allocation at $6.75 billion, followed by $1.7 billion each for Apps and Infrastructure. Its American Dynamism fund — focused on defense, public safety, and critical systems — secured $1.18 billion, while Bio and Healthcare will receive $700 million. An additional $3 billion is earmarked for other venture strategies.
Notably, the firm’s standalone crypto fund was not included in this raise. However, a16z emphasized that crypto investments remain embedded across its broader Growth portfolio, which includes companies operating at the intersection of blockchain, finance, and infrastructure.

Crypto exposure continues through targeted bets
Despite the absence of a dedicated crypto allocation in this round, a16z continues to back blockchain-native projects. Earlier this week, the firm invested $15 million into Babylon, a Bitcoin staking and lending protocol designed to expand decentralized finance use cases on the Bitcoin network.
The investment reflects a broader thesis that Bitcoin and crypto networks can evolve into productive financial infrastructure rather than remaining purely speculative assets.
As venture capital increasingly aligns with national strategy and industrial policy, a16z’s latest raise underscores how crypto is being framed not just as a financial innovation, but as a strategic technology with long-term geopolitical implications.
“If America fails to win technologically, it will lose economically, militarily, geopolitically, and culturally. And the entire world will lose as well.”
